RoN is comparable to SWAT 4 only in basic gameplay elements, the ROE system and the usage of “dark” themes in some missions, though nothing in this game so far has affected me in the same way that missions like the Fairfax residence or the Children of Tarrone tenement were able to in SWAT 4. In terms of AI, they are much less complex and varied, both in function and in physical variation. In SWAT 4, depending on the mission, it’s often quite difficult to tell who could be hiding a gun, and that leads to a lot more tension when planning and executing engagements.

In RoN, I have experienced similar moments, but much, much less often. Oftentimes, armed suspects are generic models of men in leather jackets and ski masks holding guns at the ready as though they were expecting your arrival even if that sometimes makes no sense given the context of the mission. They don’t feel like humans capable of feeling fear, pain or panic and prone to being forced into submission through use of overwhelmingly superior tactics and the threat of death.
