Game Overview
Initially, Liberation was a mobile game and I remember playing the non-HD version on console quite a few years ago. The HD edition set things right and made this an actual bonafide AC game. It is a bit shorter and smaller than the main series, but it features quite some interesting mechanics with the three different guises assassin, slave and smartypants and the controls have been re calibrated to feel mostly like in any of the other games. Graphically it scales so well to 4k that I personally couldn’t notice at all anymore that this was initially a mobile game, so Ubisoft did things more than right in this regard. Game play wise it is the usual, which means good. The story has some very minor plot twists but mostly unlike able characters, the main selling point being the first-time female protagonist. Aveline is okay as a persona I guess, but she definitely does not live up to the dramatic writing potential of Ezio or Ken way. Still, this definitely deserves a lot better than all those mixed reviews. It’s a must play for die hard AC fans and it’s a good action adventure for anyone else as well.
