Game Overview

BELOW is a slow exploration-focus adventure with survival and crafting elements. Outside of a few pop-ups telling you about what buttons to press to interact with thing. There is zero hand-holding in this game. No tutorials, no guidance, no overly descriptive tool tips in the menus or on items – personally I find this minimalist style very refreshing, but if you are used to games telling you everything about how they work up-front then you might have a hard time getting into this game.

The game’s two biggest features are perms death and the procedural generation. When you die (and you will!), the dungeon floors get re-created and a new player character arrives at the island. Even with the re-shuffled dungeon you can still find and loot the remains of your old adventurer on the floor and room that they died in. There are, however, permanent changes to the island that you will be able to unlock as you explore the area and when progressing through the labyrinthine dungeon, which, among st other things, will make subsequent runs after a character’s death more convenient.
