Alter Cosmos is, first and foremost, a point and click adventure game with occasional combat. Historically point and click adventures can have some pretty obtuse puzzles, and there are occasional moments like that in Alter Cosmos where you have to do your share of pixel hunting to find items hidden away in the background/foreground, but for the most part we found ourselves cruising through the puzzles. There’s also a feature to the puzzle-solving mechanic that we REALLY appreciated. When you have an item selected in your inventory, the game just knows to try to use that item wherever you click. This is so much more streamlined than the typical point and click situation where you have to click your item then click where you want to try to use it. Combat is a little wonky and involves feverishly clicking on your targets to wail on them with your claws, boots, and tail. If you have a gun, same deal. You run up and wildly fire until they’re dead.
