Game Overview

The visual novel has brilliant art and sound effects. Astatos heavily contrasts with other visual novels where you read a book slowly with two static, silent characters on screen. The characters move and change expressions in a lively way that is even better done than in Nekojishi. The sound effects are high quality and greatly add to the atmosphere. I can not fully judge the story as I have only played it for about an hour, but from my short time with it I am exited to return for more. One criticism is that the translation feels unprofessional in comparison, being overly formal in places with somewhat awkward sentence structures. It is also buggy, but the devs seem good at releasing bug fixes.

The card game is very fun. You randomly choose between two sides; Mukaki and Makari-haki. All characters are from the vn. The game is centered around summoning a handful of shared heroes that each have unique abilities. Each side starts with its own unique hero that has powerful abilities. There are no health bars on the players or heroes, instead; each hero can be swayed to the other side with ‘energy’ and player health is replaced with a tug-of-war mechanic.
