Game Overview

Bladestorm: Nightmare is a Japanese Warriors-interpretation of the 100 Year War between England and France, featuring a good score of actually existing historical characters. Being a Musou game, it is extremely grindy and only appeals to a niche target audience, but to that audience, it does deliver most superbly. The game is a revamp from the original 2007 console release, scales nicely to 4k and looks pretty good featuring hundreds of units on screen without stutter or any technical issues. The only issues I ever had were random shader flickering every few hours for a scene, apart from that it runs well without crashes or any hiccups.

As for the gameplay itself, you’re playing a self-created Mercenary captain called upon by the two clashing forces of the 100 year war and as the game progresses you’ll become able to control some, if not all of the key historical characters as part of your 4 squad army. Combat mechanics consists of three special abilities for every unit class and type, which there are roughly three to four dozen of, meaning there’s a lot of variety to fiddle around with.
