Delver is a cute, simple rouge lite dungeon crawler, with minimal RPG elements, permeate, random level generation and lots of replay ability. The graphics and music are charming, there’s a fair amount of items and four distinct areas to explore. One run takes typically a bit above an hour and takes you through 2 levels per said dungeon type, plus some intermissions / boss level. Once you get to the final level, defeat evil Lich and grab the magic orb, you need to escape the same way you got there. This means you’re backtracking through all the levels you cleared so far as fast as you can, while high-level enemies constantly spawn at every corner. This may be a bit off-putting for some people, I imagine, but doesn’t really bother me.
The game has some obvious flaws. AI of enemies is very basic, they are quite dumb and frequently get stuck. There is no real class system, you just increase one of the three randomly chosen attributes every time you level up. You cannot really focus on spell casting, because items you find are random, and you can’t really depend on magical staves, as they quickly run out and there is no way to recharge them.
