Game Overview
This is a great simple yet complex little game. The bulk of it is running the ludus’s day to day affairs, firing and hiring employees, training gladiators, entertaining the local legate and magistrate, buying food, water, wine and slaves punctuated by occasional moral choices via text bubbles with tangible consequences. Every few days or so you’ll have a arena fight where you can either take direct control of one of your gladiators or allow their AI whose competence is based on a particular trainable skill to fight for you. Should you win you’ll be rewarded with money, slaves, gladiators and more rarely chariots, lions and horses.
Should you lose you’ll receive a small consolation prize in the form of a paltry sum and a slave to compensate for your lost stock. Battles are quick and unforgiving but need not always end in death for you may surrender in most fights but whether your gladiator lives or dies depends on the whim of the crowd.
