Game Overview

What “kind” of game am I talking about? Well, Dust and Salt is basically an interactive novel with minor turn-based strategy elements; and it’s the latter that almost had me convinced that I was never gonna complete this, much less in the relatively short time that I did. The story is generally good – you Game of Thrones fanatics should be pleased! – though the ending is a bit abrupt and not altogether satisfying. The writing is solid, if unexceptional. The visual aesthetics of the game are passable going on good, while the music is actually pretty frickin’ nifty.

The turn-based combats in question are…well, kind of odd, given that they’re extremely simplistic in terms of options, yet surprisingly challenging to beat. The reason for the aforementioned restart was that, well, I’d basically reached a point in that playthrough where I just didn’t have enough troops left to complete any of the missions still available to me.
