The devs have listened to criticism from their previous expeditions titles and this one has a more fleshed out class/skill system that feels better. There might be fewer skills than in vikings but the classes and their skills feel distinct instead of different iterations of the same thing. Each of the 4 classes have their role to play, as do the three “paths” that you can go down within each class. While you can double or even triple dip into the paths, each has an impact in how you play the class, for instance do you want your archer to be focused on longer range. On interrupting enemies? The gameplay itself is solid and engaging. The skills, movement and RPG mechanics feel solid and intuitive. There’s no surprises on why something happens, you have a good overview of all relevant stats and get the feedback you need to make informed choices in combat. The only area where I feel more information could be provided is in the army battles, where rolls are made and based on them you get a certain outcome. To begin with it’s not entirely clear how that works, but after a few you start to get an understanding for it. It’s the only area where I felt the tutorial wasn’t comprehensive enough.
