The game is a hack-N-slash type of game like its predecessor but it has made some changes to the usual formula. Both the enemies servants (commanders) and the battlefield are centred towards the principle of “dynamic, ever-changing combat”, this is done in the shape of enemies getting I-frames, making combos and having sets of skills that are automatic combos. This reinforces the idea of blocking to the player as just attacking blindly will result in a quick death in hard or above difficulties. The game also allows for players to use traits of servants, skills, Noble Phantasm and to customise/manage these skills and traits.
The game is sort of a spiral as of now. Combat follows a high pace setting but sometimes it becomes either faster or slowdowns a little. When it becomes faster, it is filled with adrenaline since everyone is moving at such a speed it can be hard to track down where is everyone but I don’t think this is bad as it makes the player rely on their reflexes. The game runs at a variable frame rate, it moves between 60 and 120 a lot and rarely it will drop to 30FPS especially near walls during boss fights/servants battles.
