Game Overview
After a rough launch, this game seems to be on track to be as great a single-player game as it is a multi-player game. The Frozen Synapse multiplayer remains fairly unchanged, though with new map layouts and new units. There’s also a one turn mode that is a ton of fun to puzzle through. It feels very fresh. The city map is really cool to look at, and the way the game zooms in on smaller chunks of the map for missions makes the game feel totally different than FS. I really enjoy the sense that each battle is part of a larger struggle and a living city.
There’s a lot that isn’t explain in the single player made, however. You can easily feel lost or overwhelmed, but as things progress, you understand how to prioritize, what to say yes or no to, and so on. It’s really quite an achievement. The tactical game play is tight, the city game I found initially very difficult but having gotten my head around it I find it a very satisfying experience with consequences to your choices and although losing a soldier isn’t permanent, it adds more stakes to the fights and incentives you to try to keep all your soldiers alive.
