Game Overview

ICEY presents a post apocalypse sci-fi world. You play as “ICEY”, a synthetic humanoid awaked to achieve one ultimate goal assigned by the voice of narrator. Every action of ICEY will be mentioned and reminded by the narrator over and over to keep her in track. But you have right to “follow” his way or simply “disobey” his order. This is how ICEY represents its uniqueness with well-written dialogue of narrator trying to be sarcastic every time you do in the opposite direction. ICEY is inspired from META game such as The Stanley Parable, but every route you choose will reward you with background story.

The game play of the slasher part feels awesome; the cracks in the fourth wall make you feel smart. The execution is mediocre, but not to the point of making ICEY unpleasant. This game’s biggest downside is its self-fascination. Make no mistake: it’s nowhere near The Stanley Parable in terms of wit and charm, and the long-winded speeches of the Narrator would have been way more poignant and dramatic if they were cut in half. Nevertheless, adding the whole meta story line and game play to a genre that is stereo typically considered somewhat mindless is a fresh and original endeavour, and that alone makes ICEY worthy of players’ attention.
