Game Overview
Klaus is an endearing and unusual puzzle/platformer that has just the right amount of difficulty to reward you for your efforts. It’s bursting with charm and boasts an unusual story telling system. The plot unfolds through a series of small and often humorous one-line sentences displayed within the game play area. Whilst a lot of these statements are jokes and flippant remarks, they also slowly reveal the story behind Klaus and his search for the truth behind his origins. The only issue I have with this is that the font size and placement vary from screen to screen and I often found myself missing text, especially whilst trying to perform a difficult maneuver.
Overall however it was an original concept that succeeded in creating a quirky and interesting story that gathered pace towards the end. The game was described as a precision plat former. Initially this worried me as I thought it might be too difficult. After completing the game, I found it challenging in places but at no point did I get stuck. Numerous checkpoints throughout the level ensured that you didn’t have to repeat long stretches of game play and always came as a welcome relief after a particularly tricky section.
