Everhood has been compared to Undertale in dozens of reviews already, and while that comparison is apt in many regards (visuals, general tone, and even environments), it is also an unfair one. In reality, this game pull from all sorts of inspirations, like Yume Nikki and other RPGMaker games, a healthy dose of anime, and good old-fashioned Guitar Hero to make something wholly unique and interesting. Yes, Everhood wears it’s inspirations proudly, but what it does in terms of originality is quite something. For a first time attempt at a game, this is something really special, and demonstrates a great amount of talent and effort from Chris and Jordi.
To begin, everything about Everhood’s presentation is impressive. Particle effects look great, sprite art is clean and appealing, and the wide variety of environments make for a visually appealing game. That being said, the game pulls no punches with producing visuals I can only describe as “violently epileptic”, and I strongly suggest that anyone with any photosensitivity check this game’s visual clarity options, or perhaps steer away entirely.
