One of the main differences between this and the Zelda games that it’s compared to so often is the dungeon design. The lines between the overworld and dungeons are much more blurred in this game. Whereas in Zelda you can usually tell the beginning and the end of a dungeon, in this game there are some instances where you just go “did I just complete a dungeon?” Some of the dungeons are integrated into the overworld much more so than traditional Zelda games, which I thought was a really neat thing that made this game unique. If I had to describe the game in one word, it would be: charming. The game is full of charm, with many beautiful locations and whimsical and memorable characters and missions.
If you’re looking for a Zelda-like experience that isn’t Zelda, then look no further. This is it. It has enough uniqueness and charm to make it its own thing, and I would recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a meaty action/adventure title. This is one of those games where I wish I could forget and experience it for the first time all over again. Still a great adventure game that stands out with it’s unique art style. The port to HD isn’t perfect and supported aspect ratios and resolutions are limited for a PC game, but that didn’t distract me from gameplay.
