Game Overview
Great movement mechanics. I love the wall climbing and grappling hook mechanics. It’s great. You can hook and fly up with one hand and throw a star or swing your sword with another. Very cool. I love how the grappling hook waits for your arm swing before activating, that’s a nice touch. I wish the strafing would get a bit more polish on touch pad walking however. it’s a little jerky right now and seems very digital. rolling your thumb around should give you smooth strafing but when you do in this game it can completely stop the player or it’s all or nothing and no gentle in between. Pavlov has this mechanic mastered and would be a good model to try to take inspiration from.
There’s no melee collision so enemies feel like you’re cutting down cardboard cutouts. There’s no weight to it so it feels a bit hollow and the sounds are pretty anemic. I think a little bit of a balance with making the enemies bodies respond to your melee could go a long way. It doesn’t have to be 100% collision but a little bit of a stiff rag doll effect could go a long way. Just to make it feel like you’ve got some weight to your sword swings. When defeating an enemy they just all kneel down in the same position. This gets boring after a while, and would like to see some variety in death animations or maybe rag doll effects.
