As a first time Star Control player, I’ve had a lot of fun with SC2 over the past couple weeks. The story is great, writing is witty, and progression feels good. While the map is large with tons to see, I had the most fun following the story rather than playing in the game like a sandbox. With most space exploration games nowadays being all about procedural generation and repetitive encounters, having a curated scripted adventure really makes SC2 stand out to other games of the same genre (No Man’s Sky, Starbound, ect). Combat is pretty fun, with my only real criticism being that it’s a bit too easy. Upgrading your ship and installing different modules as well as the variety of enemy ships you can encounter helps keep combat interesting.
