Game Overview
It’s good. The graphics are phenomenal, the game play is slow, but intense. It’s a first person bullet hell in slo-mo. I love that there are certain mechanics I found out naturally, like blocking bullets with your gun, or enemy friendly fire. I think the sound design cannot be understated. It does a good job of complimenting the polygonal, minimalist aesthetic with an equally sharp set of audio stings. I love the guy that goes “S U P E R. H O T.” Can’t get enough of that guy. There’s also these clever little details, like putting the floppies in to start the game, or how the day passes as you progress through the game, or how you can look through the keyhole to the door. Which, without wishing to put too fine a point on it, was in fact, S H O R T. Like, done in a couple hours, and that’s being generous. The story is also a lot less smart than it thinks it is. It’s a poor man’s Matrix, and Matrix isn’t exactly high art. The story has these shallow man vs machine themes that go nowhere, and none of the epic gamer “it was actually real” stuff goes anywhere because the game is really really short. I had this great eye rolling moment where it just put me in an empty room, put a gun in my hand, and prompted me with the text “YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO” or something to that effect.
