Before playing The Long Dark, I was pretty much a hater of this style of games. After a few hours I couldn’t let myself stop playing this. Very good survival mechanics combined with unpredictable weather conditions and constant changes of wildlife appearance made each survived day a completely unique experience. Story mode is good, but it definitely could be less tedious with more things happening and less travelling to extremely distant objectives. But survival mode where you are only supposed to survive as long as possible is really challenging with much more stuff to do/craft, with much higher fear factor thanks to permadeath system with no manual saves.
