The Messenger is a high quality retro-yet-modern plat former in the same vein as Shovel Knight in the sense that the whole game is built around a well-thought-out movement mechanic.While I don’t think this title shines as brilliantly as Shovel Knight, I absolutely think it is a must-play for fans of the genre and is overall just fantastic. Essentially, you platform through a level eliminating baddies, and then fight a boss that usually has a few phases. There is a shop with a quirky keeper and a limited skill tree to upgrade. The skills you can buy aren’t super novel, but they are quite functional. The music is quite appropriate, but dare I say in a few boss fights it was a bit grating (hey, that’s how retro game music goes sometimes). The platforming was great, but I’m not sure it does a whole lot new other than the Cloud Jump. You also get Panzer Strategy PC Game..
