Game Overview

Yesterday Origins is a game of dualities. Not only it is both the prequel and the sequel to Pendulo’s most serious point ‘n’ click adventure, Yesterday, but it is also a unique mixture of interactive storytelling and traditional adventure game mechanics. All of these could have been a solid foundation for a narrative-driven adventure game, but for some reason we also have the girlfriend, Pauline act as a secondary protagonist in a handful of chapters. Because of this duality, we are almost playing two different games here. One is set in the Middle Ages, exploring the titular hero’s past life as he turned from a scared youngster into a merciless Satanist. The other deals with his present-day midlife crisis, where he struggles with a girlfriend who cannot understand his craving for normality and a new villain whose motivations are uncomfortably similar to the one in the first game. She feels out of place with her cheap mid-2000s B-grade action movie personality and plot line, which just never fits into Yesterday’s otherwise excellent character-centric investigation and final showdown with his past.
