Half Dead 2 has you and a group of others run through randomly generated levels each filled with an array of square rooms, and inside these square rooms are dangerous traps you and your buds must overcome in order to reach the levels exit. The game lets you throw your shoes into rooms to test for traps, shoes can be picked up, but if lost they are gone forever, making them a valuable resource. Luckily, extra shoes and med kits are the only two items you can find in the entire game, so you don’t really need to worry about running out often. If you have friends to play with, they will be able to find special rooms occasionally which can revive you if you die to a trap. And that is basically the extent of the game play.
While the game is a bit of fun to mess around in with friends, it really doesn’t have any lasting appeal to make me want to come back to it. Within about thirty minutes of playing I had seen basically every single combination of rooms and traps, and quickly grew very bored. You are pretty much required to throw your shoe into every room to make sure it isn’t an instant death trap room because you cannot find out any other way, so if you are out of shoes you just have to wing it and hope you make it out.
