Game Overview

Hiiro is a 2D platform game focused on ambient exploration and puzzle solving. Discover a grand world filled with mysterious artifacts and forgotten ruins. The game is a story told without words, so much so that the title and credits are the only points at which any text appears at all. Though there isn’t any writing, the story is conveyed well through visuals and symbols; the tree in the middle of the protagonist’s floating village is dying and all the other villagers are fading away with it, but a golden cube in the world below can somehow save everything. Overall, the text less design of the game is handled extremely well and it fits perfectly with the completely free form style of exploration. The game opens by showing the player, a red figure, with members of his community surrounding a dying tree that has great significance to the people. This significance is untold to the players. Another member of the community, who I imagine to be an elder, speaks to you and shows you an image of a golden cube. You then start off on your adventure. I argue that this sequence is telling you that the way in which to save the tree and perhaps even your community is to collect these golden cubes.
