Game Description

This is one of those “The Room” types of games, like Earth Defense Force or Deadly Premonition. It’s got somewhat janky controls, no mid-mission checkpoints, some unclear obstacles, and some of the most hilariously bad dialogue I’ve ever heard. Despite the flaws, you’re still the President fighting a coup d’etat staged by your VP in a mech with giant revolvers and machine guns. You’re still zipping around and trashing rogue military forces, helicopters, and other mech pilots. You’re still destroying rail guns on Alcatraz and air bases in the Grand Canyon. All of it adds to an undeniable charm that makes you want to believe in your own justice.

Keep in mind, this is a remaster. The core game has not really been changed, just polished up and made to work on modern systems with a proper translation. But this is for both good and bad. Metal Wolf Chaos wears its inspiration on its sleeve, and is not afraid to play its own tropes all the way. But these are design sensibilities from more than a decade ago. Somewhat clunky controls, very little tutorial, utterly bonkers story, the works. This is Jank, but it’s FUN jank, and that’s what matters in the end.
