The story follows Jesse and their group of friends, who enter a building contest in order to meet their heroes – The Order of the Stone. During the after events of the building contest a wither storm is set loose upon the town, and it’s up to our protagonists to gather the members of The Order of the Stone to help them defeat the storm and save their home. The way the story is told makes me think of what a role play guild might come up with while playing the game, which makes it feel alive in the imaginative sense. Overall it may be filled with overused tropes and hints of flat humour, but it’s a charmingly heartwarming game about friendship and overcoming obstacles, and I can appreciate just how much it made me want to pick up a copy of Minecraft and give it a try. There’s a sense of adventure to be found here in Story Mode, and while it may not fully be a “create your own story” sort of game, there’s a lot of freedom in the choices you are given, and the freedom to make no choice at all.
