Game Overview
This was my first Tales game and I’m glad I chose this one. Story was fantastic, even if some plot points were too predictable. You’ll laugh, you’ll seethe, you’ll smile, and you might even accuse someone of chopping onions. Characters were strongly develop, and made it very easy to relate to their motivations and challenges, and that set the stage for a strong RPG. VAs were also generally outstanding, with some minor exceptions, but I was really impressed with Velvet’s.
The battles were fast and fun, with challenging foes always waiting on the doorstep. It takes a little while to get used to, but it soon becomes second nature just through repetition, so you won’t be held back for long. Add in a feature where you an stomp through weak enemies or have them ignore you and you can reduce needless fights and it helps keep things from being tedious. There were a few issues I had: while the music was good, nothing stood out to me, You also have to battle with the cheap tactic of being stun locked, which is never fun. Finally, if you have subtitles on, get ready to see some really egregious errors, enough to make you wonder if someone fell asleep reviewing them. Game also crashed on me twice.
